Full Skin Check
30 minutes
A thorough whole-body skin check
Choose this appointment if you would like a whole-body skin check, have 6 or more spots you would like checked, have a personal or family history of skin cancer, or when a follow-up skin check has been recommended for you.
Your GP will perform a thorough whole-body skin check while respecting your privacy and dignity throughout the examination.
Mole/Spot Check
20 minutes
Assessment of up to 5 moles, spots or skin lesions of concern
Choose this appointment if you have up to 5 specific spots or moles that you would like your GP to assess.
Your GP can examine and compare the areas that concern you and use dermoscopy where appropriate.
Only one spot worrying you? You can also book a standard GP appointment rather than waiting for a dedicated skin-check appointment.
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens during a skin check?
Your GP will ask about your skin concerns and relevant history before examining your skin.
For a Full Skin Check, your GP will perform a whole-body skin examination. For a Mole/Spot Check, the examination will focus on the areas that concern you.
Handheld dermoscopy (dermatoscopy) may be used to examine individual spots or moles more closely and is included at no extra cost.
What if something suspicious is found?
Your doctor will explain what they find and discuss the next step with you.
If further investigation or treatment is needed, this may be arranged at Cavenagh Medical Centre.
Depending on the lesion and the treating doctor’s procedural skills, treatment may include cryotherapy, biopsy or surgical excision.
Removed tissue is sent to pathology. Your GP will discuss the result with you and arrange further treatment, a recommended follow-up or referral when needed.
If specialist care is more appropriate, your GP can refer you to a dermatologist, plastic surgeon or other appropriate specialist.

What does it cost?
Skin checks are privately billed using our standard consultation fees. Medicare rebates may apply for eligible patients.
Dermoscopy is included at no extra cost.
Cryotherapy is charged per lesion. Biopsy and surgical procedure fees vary depending on the size, type and location of the lesion.
Costs are discussed before treatment.
Do you provide mole mapping?
No. Cavenagh Medical Centre does not provide mole mapping. Our GPs provide clinical skin examination and use handheld dermoscopy where appropriate.
